About the author

For a variety of reasons I came to travel relatively late in my life, with New Zealand at the age of thirty four, marking my first international departure since I was ten. So a long time between trips, certainly, but I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to travel, and to begin to travel abroad in my thirties. It means a great deal to me at this point in my life.

I am grateful for the courage Victoria gave me to travel together with her as a team. To be able to share experiences with someone who understands us, is a unique and valuable connection. And now I am also fortunate to share my next experiences with my daughter, Alice.

I felt a profound sense of peace in the wilderness of the North and South Islands of New Zealand, it grew into something I feel quite protective of, and heartfelt about. There is such diversity and subtle contrast across the environments of the two islands. Accessible, intricate, and deeply fascinating.

The photograph above is of Victoria, and yours truly. I set the timer for ten seconds then ran to my position only to find Victoria was on the end of the bench, so I sort of locked my legs and squatted in the air. It was probably the most manly thing I did in New Zealand.

I hope you enjoy these journals, thank you for visiting.
