Beyond the 42nd Parallel, is a journal about places. It is a love letter to interesting locations around the world. Some entries are informative, others simply offer sentiment or reflection. Oftentimes the photographs and writing directly relate, but sometimes a connection might be a little more abstract. My hope is that it conveys a sense of connection to some truly remarkable places. My photographs can also be viewed in high resolution on Flickr
Journal chapters are categorized below. Each chapter contains a unique entry for each location. A written page is followed by a photograph. Once you select a chapter, you can navigate using the arrows at the side of each page, or through the strip of dots at the bottom of the page. The mobile site allows you to swipe left or right to change pages, but the photographs are best experienced with the desktop version.
Summer (January), 2020. Journey south through the North Island of New Zealand. Begin in Auckland before traveling via central Waikato, visiting Rotorua and its many volcanic fixtures. We pass the blue lake Taupo and pause in Tongariro National Park, before continuing all the way down to Wellington.
Summer (January), 2020. Journey north through the South Island of New Zealand. Begin in Glenorchy, before climbing in altitude, adjacent to the impressive Southern Alps, Traverse high deserts in the Mackenzie Basin, past Aoraki Mount Cook and the Tasman Glacier. The township of Tekapo awaits, before finishing in Christchurch.
